Since October 2020 I am a Juniorprofessor (W1-Professor) in Geometry at the Institute of Algebra and Geometry of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the head of a young investigator group in the area of Geometric Group Theory and Complex Geometry.

Current group members:
  • Matteo Migliorini (Postdoc, since 10/2023)
  • Jannis Weis (PhD student, since 11/2023, co-supervised with Roman Sauer )
  • Marco Amelio (Postdoc, since 11/2025, funded by AEI-DFG project and also in Elia Fioravanti's group)
Former group members:
  • Jerónimo García Mejía (PhD student, 10/2020 - 09/2024, now Postdoc at University of Oxford)
  • Gabriel Pallier (Postdoc, 10/2022 - 08/2023, now Maître de Conferences at Université de Lille)

Research interests

My research interests are in Geometric Group Theory, Complex Geometry and their interactions.

Specific areas of my interest include:
  • The study of fundamental groups of compact Kähler manifolds (Kähler groups) using techniques and results from Geometric Group Theory.
  • Constructions of compact Kähler manifolds with interesting fundamental groups
  • Filling functions of groups and in particular their Dehn functions
  • Finiteness properties of groups
  • Surface groups, limit groups and the nature of residually free groups
  • Mapping class groups and their rigidity properties
  • Kodaira fibrations and families of Riemann surfaces
  • Subgroups of hyperbolic and non-positively curved groups
  • The large scale geometry of nilpotent groups
  • Simple groups
For more on my research see my preprints and publications and also my CV.
